Barrie, Ont - On Saturday, October 28th marked the 3rd Annual Battle of the Bears, men's west coast rugby rivalry game, between your Sheridan Bruins and the Georgian Grizzlies. For the past two years the hosting team has always won, with the Grizzles winning the first year and the Bruins taking a 40-21 win last year.
Just before going into battle, the Bruins are coming off an exciting win at Bruin's Homecoming against the Humber Hawks 21-7, giving them a boost of confidence going into the rivalry game against the Grizzlies.
On Grizzlies home turf, the Bruins were still able to establish notable physical efforts, as well as the team worked together staying tight throughout the game; resulting in gaining yards quickly, and moving the ball from either ends of the field. At half, the Grizzlies were leading 19-10, a very close contest between the two bears. Half way through the second half, the Grizzlies widen the gap to 41-10 but the Bruins did not give up, and they retaliated to keep the game close. From all the efforts put into the battle against the Grizzlies, the Bruins unfortunately lost the battle to a score of 46-22.
This makes the Grizzlies the 2019 Battle of the Bears Champions, with the game hopeful to return to Sheridan home turf next year, for another battle. The Grizzlies now lead the Battle of the Bears series 2-1.
Rounding up the season the Bruins will host their two final regular season game against the: Conestoga Condors (2-2) and the Mohawk Mountaineers (0-4).
Be sure to come out this upcoming Friday (October 11th) to support your Bruins on their second last game of the season at 3:00pm at home against the Conestoga Condors.
