Peterborough, Ont - After defeating the St. Lawrence Vikings in the cross over game of playoffs 5-1, the Bruins were on the bus headed to Peterborough for the OCAA Championships weekend, hosted at Fleming College. On Wednesday October 23rd, the Bruins played at 3pm against the Durham Lords. Durham played Lambton Lions for the cross over playoff game and defeated them 3-1.
The Bruins were focused, determined and ready to take on the Lords for the Quarter Finals. Both teams were playing aggressive at both ends of the pitch for the first half of the game. The Bruins struggled to get going in the first half, however, they brought their "A" game for the second. Despite being down a man with the unfortunate red card of Quentin Williams in the second half, the Bruins were still able to take the lead with a goal from Spencer Barber in the 75th minute of the game. For the next 15 minutes, the game was a nail biter with the Bruins being forced to play a tight defensive structure due to being down one man with the 1-0 lead. In the 90th minute of the game, Chidibere Nnolim got possession of the ball and went end to end by passing Lord players, all the way to the net, giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead, and ultimately the win of the Quarter Finals and advance to the Semi's. Nnolim was awarded "Player of the Game" for the Bruins for his outstanding goal.
The Bruins will be playing the Fanshawe Falcons in the Semi Finals on Friday October 25th at 3pm at Fleming College. In regular season, the Falcons opened their season against the Bruins, defeating them 2-1.
