Bruins Year End Awards

Due to the current situation of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Sheridan Bruins Athletic Department had to cancel the 51st Annual Athletic Banquet that celebrates and awards the Varsity Athletes for the 2019-2020 season. This year, the Bruins released and announced the top 4 awards via social media, on a day-by-day basis.

On Monday, March 30th, the Rob-Till Student Citizen Award Nominees were released followed by the Award winner.

Female Rob Till Student Citizen Award Nominees:

  • Melanie Jubenville, Women's Soccer
  • Aura Quinsay, Women's Basketball
  • Brianna Timothy, Women's Rugby
  • Jessalyn Carvajal, Women's Cross Country
  • Tany Dourev, Women's Volleyball

The recipient of this year's award was Aura Quinsay on the Women's Basketball team. 

Aura has an outstanding work ethic and always comes with a positive attitude at practice and games. On top of all this, Aura is a front desk staff, Peer Mentor and helps at any event possible, always bringing her positive and helpful attitude. Aura is very involved with the Sheridan Community and her team, and that is why she was well-deserving of this award.

Male Rob Till Student Citizen Award Nominees:

  • Quentin Williams, Men's Soccer
  • Liam Butchereit, Men's Volleyball
  • Keenan Danso-Dapaah, Men's Basketball
  • Tristian Hylton-Hastings, Men's Rugby
  • Quinn Middleton, Men's Cross Country

The recipient of this years award was Keenan Danso-Dapaah on the Men's Basketball team. Keenan was always the first to volunteer for any school events and any opportunities to give back to the community, and help facilitate youth basketball clinics hosted by the Bruins. On the court, Keenan always had a great attitude, leading by example for the younger players, and making him an easily coachable player. On top of being an athlete, Keenan also assisted the Athletic Department in designing the new basketball uniforms for this year.

On Tuesday, March 31st, the nominees of the Student-Athlete of the Year Award were released.

Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award Nominees:

  • Marianna Defina, Women's Soccer
  • Devyn MacKenzie, Women's Basketball
  • Shania Harriott, Women's Rugby
  • Lexy Pakenham-Troth, Women's Cross Country
  • Celine Blanchette, Women's Volleyball

The recipient of this year's award was Celine Blanchette on the Women's Volleyball team. While Celine is a starter on the volleyball team she also maintains a 4.0 GPA in the Social Service Worker program.

Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award Nominees:

  • Chester Ashby, Men's Soccer
  • Mohamud Qasim, Men's Basketball
  • Abdullah Saleh, Men's Rugby
  • Quinn Middleton, Men's Cross Country
  • Pratik Shetty, Men's Volleyball

The recipient of this year's award was Quinn Middleton on the Men's Cross Country team. Quinn has maintained a 3.8 GPA in the Athletic Therapy Program while also being a go-to member at Cross Country meets.

 

Without the Coach, there would be no team. On Wednesday, April 1st, the Bruins announced the Coach of the Year Award.

The Nominees are:

  • Amar Balkaran, Women's Volleyball
  • Sean Douglas, Women's Basketball
  • Alex McCallion, Women's Rugby
  • Danny Webster, M/W Cross Country
  • Andrew Seuradge, Men's Soccer
  • Jim Flack, Men's Basketball
  • Frank Pento, Men's Volleyball
  • Rick Bria, Men's Rugby

The recipient of this years Coach of the Year Award is Danny Webster of the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams. This is Danny's second year in a row winning this award. Danny's Women's team finished 4th overall and the Men's team finished 3rd in the OCAA and the Women's team finished 9th and the Men's team finished 4th in the CCAA Championships.

Last but certainly not least, the Bruins Athletic department released the nominees for the Athlete of the Year Award.

The Female Nominees are:

  • Nevada Feasby, Women's Soccer
  • Rachel Abrahams, Women's Volleyball
  • Marla Brown, Women's Cross Country
  • Jasmine Muzvidziwa, Women's Rugby
  • Theresa Brown, Women's Basketball

The recipient of this years Female Athlete of the Year Award is Nevada Feasby on the Women's Soccer team. This is Nevada's first year at Sheridan and on the Soccer team; she is a reliable, fast and very skilled defenseman for the Bruins. She was also the recipient of the First Team OCAA All Star award as well as the OCAA West Defensive Player of the Year Award.

The Male Nominees are:

  • Anthony Wright, Men's Soccer
  • Liam Butchereit, Women's Volleyball
  • Cole Bond, Men's Cross Country
  • Tristian Hylton-Hastings, Men's Rugby
  • Nick Campbell, Men's Basketball

The recipients of this year's Male Athlete of the Year Award are Liam Butchereit (MVB) and Nick Campbell (MBB). Both Liam and Nick are exemplary athletes and both have a large impact on their teams on the courts. Liam was the recipient of the OCAA First Team All Star Award and he has the All-Time OCAA Digs Record. Nick, second time winner of the Bruins Athlete of the Year award, was also the recipient of the OCAA First Team All Star Award, in addition to the OCAA Leading Scorer Award, the OCAA Player of the Year and the CCAA All Canadian & Player of the Year. Nick also holds the record for the Bruins All Time Leading Scorer.

  

 

Every year the Sheridan Sun Newspaper selects a Varsity Athlete from all 10 teams that is the most newsworthy athlete. This year the recipient of the Sheridan Sun Most Newsworthy Athlete is Nick Campbell, of the Men's Basketball team.
