Men's volleyball prevail in four sets against Conestoga

KITCHENER, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (3-2 OCAA) was able to pick up a big road win on Friday evening at Conestoga college.

The Bruins jumped out to an early lead in the first set and carried the momentum to a 25-19 set win.

Some tough serving and timely defence helped propel the Bruins in the second set as they handily beat the Condors 25-15.

The Home team would not go away easily as they jumped out to an early third set lead.

Ahead 18-10, the Bruins began to mount a comeback, but the lead was too great to overcome and the Bruins fell 25-21.

The fourth and final set saw both teams trading points until the late stages of the match.

A Chris Adams stuff block, followed by an Christian Dela Cruz service ace set up match point for the Bruins and a Conestoga hitting error ended the set and match 3-1.

"We competed very hard and were able to execute our game plan pretty well," head coach Frank Pento said. "We came up with timely digs and blocks, which helps to relieve some pressure off of our offence.

"Next weeks match against Humber is a big game on our schedule. It is a tough gym to play in, and they are a great team. We will get to work this week to prepare, and hopefully we can steal one on the road."
